3 Ways to Prevent Key Loss

After all, it’s all too easy to lose track of where your keys went, especially when you need to rush out the door. Here are some helpful tips for keeping track of your key.

How often do you lose your keys? If it happens too often, then we don’t blame you for getting upset about it! After all, it’s all too easy to lose track of where your keys went, especially when you need to rush out the door. Here are some helpful tips for keeping track of your key.

Make New Habits

One way to avoid losing your key is to make some new habits. Everyone has some level of autopilot, and humans are creatures of habit. We love following directions and routines especially if they rarely change. Although change is good, it can upset the apple cart if you’re not used to it. Get started with some new habits today! Keep your key on a hook or a lanyard – whether you want to hang it by the door or keep it in your purse, that’s totally fine. Just don’t forget where you put them, as you would with your wallet – which can be equally frustrating if you don’t put it back where it belongs.

Use Technology

Sometimes, though, you will lose your key. Despite your best efforts, your keys can and will go missing, especially if your housemates borrow your keys and don’t put them back where they found them – perhaps following their own routines that aren’t the same as yours – and this can be extremely frustrating. Luckily, many apps and other types of technology have developed that let you ping your keys as easily as you can for a lost remote or a tablet or even a laptop.

Load Up the Keyring

Our final suggestion is to load up your keyring. Once that is done, consider what else you can do: separating keys is a good idea, especially if you are supposed to take care of multiple sets of keys for your home, your car, your mailbox, and keys to enter other houses, such as trusted friends and family members. All of that can get really confusing! Take it from us, you will want to do whatever you can to lessen the aggravation. Even if you color-code each key, you might not remember what the codes mean. That’s why it’s so important to stay organized. Keep a small note by the door, or better yet, on your phone, so that you don’t forget and mix up a laundry room key with the one for your truck!
