Did Your Car Lock Get Stuck?

Did Your Car Lock Get Stuck?

Every time a car lock stops working, it could be for a different reason.

No one wants to be locked out of their car. This situation gets even worse if you are running late for work or you need to pick the kids up after school. Fortunately, there is a silver lining: the pros here at Village Lock and Key can give you a timely assist and really save the day!

The Lock Stopped Working

Before you can attempt to get anything fixed, start by figuring out exactly what went wrong. The diagnosis is the most important step in this process, as it will help your locksmith sort matters out much more quickly. Every time a car lock stops working, it could be for a different reason. That’s why it’s essential to know what happened, especially since knowing is half the battle!

Connection Breakdown

One possible problem is that the connections inside the car lock itself broke somehow. For instance, it could be permanently stuck in the lock position, which in some cases, is much worse than the door not being able to lock at all. The handle, cylinder, and post all work in concert, especially when you engage the child-safety-locking mechanisms. If the connections break down, then that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Rust Jams

Your car lock can suffer from rust damage. This problem becomes much more likely on days where it seems like all you can do is to sit and contemplate the rain. Rust and dirt can cause the lock to jam. This jammed lock will thwart you whether or not you rely on a key fob; the physical key itself could stick or snap,  especially if you put too much pressure on it trying to make the lock work again. Look at the keyway to see what might be wrong. Using a small LED flashlight attached to your keyring might be more convenient for this step than depending on the flashlight function built into your smartphone.

Physical Damage

Finally, consider the possibility of physical damage. Maybe a negligent driver scraped past your car and never noticed. Either way, this mishap can cause your car lock to break. The latch can also be damaged during a car accident, so that is another potential problem waiting to happen. Taking the proper precautions now can save you a heap of hassle later on – but in any case, you will have some peace of mind knowing that the crew at VLK can help you out!
